The Red Hills Power Plant (Ackerman, MS) was built in 1999-2001 by Bechtel Engineering
and Alstom Power.
On line in 2001 and started commercial generation in 2002.
We are contracted with TVA to provide grid base load power generation for 30 years.
Red Hills is an external bed design fluidized bed boiler that uses numerous ways of
capturing heat to increase efficiency.
We make use of one Toshiba HP/IP/LP multi-stage turbine/generator set to produce
440MW net for the grid load.
At full load, the plant uses approximately 10,500 tons of lignite coal per day.
That lignite is provided to the plant by an adjacent mine operated by Mississippi Lignite
Mining Corporation (MLMC).
